First, Great job by everyone! You’ve all done a great job this year. Everyone gave a serious effort today and all season. Every one of you deserves to feel extremely proud of yourselves.
Emily and Emmalyn have 1 BIG race left! The 2 girls ran the gauntlet and qualified for the State Final. The Final will be held at Parkside Jr. High School in Normal (Maxwell Park) next Saturday. We, luckily, have the 1st race of the day (9:30 a.m.). All runners who would like to come along and give support to the girls are welcome and the bus will leave KJHS @ 6:15 am.
Today Emily became the 3rd IESA XC Sectional Champion from Knoxville, joining Emmalyn (2020) and Bailey Harris (2016 & 2017). In doing so, she set a new PR for herself! Emmalyn took the 2nd individual qualifier spot by finishing in 4th. This finish shows you a taste of how the State Final will go. The top 4 girls finished in a span of :04 with Emmalyn and the 2 girls from Dunlap finishing in a span of :00.9. Madilyn powered through an injury and left everything from the past 4 years on the course for her final Jr. High race. 2021 rookies: Aubrey, Emi, Sydnee, and Natalie experienced a tough Sectional pairing for the 1st time and represented all of us with determination and pride.
Congratulations to Levi, who set a new PR for himself, leading the boys in the final race of the day. Carter gave a great effort and finished not-to-far behind. Daniel, in his final race, left it all out on the hills. Derek fought bravely and got close to his PR. Will gave his best effort and proved, once again, to himself that he can do more when he believes in himself.
Great job all!
With the exception of Emily and Emmalyn, NO RUNNING for the rest of you for 10 days. Then, get back in the swing of things. Try running 3 days a week for maintenance. Remember…..running helps you out with all other activites, not just competition.
I’ve posted the team results for the race today in the “Documents” section and you can see the full results by clicking:
I’ll be in touch over the next few weeks to let you know when we will meet for uniform turn-in and Awards night.
